SG/Send: first commit on 8 February, live on 13 February, Stripe on 1 March, ten paying customers on 2 March, a feature request shipped in 90 minutes
The first commit was on 8 February 2026, with a spec that set the rule everything since has followed: files encrypted on the client, the key never sent. send.sgraph.ai was live on 13 February. The Stripe checkout went live on 1 March; on 2 March there were ten paying customers, recruited with an offer of £5 of credits and a £5 Amazon voucher, which several declined. The first feature request, a folder not a file, came the same day and was proposed at 20:26, implemented at 20:48 and given a viewer at 22:15. Taking it to market end to end is where Dinis learnt Stripe, pricing and the rest a real product needs, which paid off later in the newsroom.
Decided by. Nobody yet: a candidate for Dinis to read, comment on and decide (keep, rewrite, merge, cut, article first, later, not doing it).
Note. Dated story for the chapter and for your-first-price-and-first-ten-customers. The article says '30 paying customers' appears only in an investor one-pager and could not be verified; ten is the recorded number. Every date and quote was checked in the repositories by two research agents.
Where it comes from
- From sending a file to sgit A service where the server holds nothing; Live in five days; Users, payments, and a feature in 22 minutes (newsroom)
What it answers in the 2018 book
- Be a founder answered written, Life Patterns
- Serverless answered outline, Concepts
Where it goes
Chapter Ship it, and see if they miss it, part Start the company (drafting); topic Be a founder (or a one-person service).
Other ideas proposed for the same chapter: Ship it, give it away briefly, take it away, and ask whether they miss it, The miss-it test applies to the builders: if you can change it and still do not use it, something is missing, The speed of the loop from a comment to a feature is the moat, not the technology, The technology worked and the use case did not: 'users buy credits, test once, and don't come back'.
