What it is for
Readers valued this arithmetic; drawn, any founder pricing in pence can see in a second where the model stops existing.
How it is made
Drawn by admin/build/infographic_svg.py from admin/content/infographics/drawn/card-fee-arithmetic.json, as a numbers. Change the data and rebuild; the picture follows. It keeps the book's colours in every theme of this site, because it is a printed picture: the same file goes into the PDF.
Notes
Fees check: £20 gives 50p (2.5%), £5 gives 27.5p (5.5%), 50p gives 20.75p (41.5%), 10p gives 20.15p. Stripe's rate is the published UK standard rate in 2026; recheck before printing and date it on the graphic.

Every line below is on the drawing or behind it, and the build found each one word for word in v2/content/6-start-the-company/19__price-it-then-give-it-away.md. A line changed in the chapter and not here stops the release.
- “Stripe's standard UK card rate is 1.5% plus 20p.” ✓
- “On a £20 payment that is 2.5%. On £5 it is 5.5%. On 50p it is 41.5%, and on 10p the fee is more than the payment.” ✓
- “Below about £5, the fixed fee is the price.” ✓
- “So payments of pence only work aggregated: one charge a year that covers many things, or a platform that already holds a balance and settles in bulk.” ✓
